Buyer Beware – Using Power Factor Correction and Transient Voltage Surge Suppression to Reduce Energy Costs.
Today’s energy conscious climate has motivated many to do what they can to become more efficient and conserve energy and money. Unfortunately this same climate has prompted others to take advantage of unsuspecting consumers’ wishes to save energy and reduce expenses.
Companies that tout power factor improvement (kVAR correction) and transient voltage suppression are a good example of this bad trend. Lately we are seeing more and more of these companies cropping up and feel it is time to set the record straight.
First, transient voltage surge suppression (TVSS) plays a valuable role in improving power quality to protect sensitive equipment inside a facility. However, TVSS does not save energy. TVSS’s are only active a tiny fraction of a second to protect against voltage surges which only last for less than a millisecond. To actually reduce energy consumption the TVSS would need to actually cut power consumption for an extended period of time which is not what they are designed to do. Again, TVSS is important to protect sensitive electrical equipment but buyers should avoid vendors promising, or even guaranteeing, that they will reduce energy consumption.
Now what about vendors who claim that improving power factor will save 15% or 20% or 30% of energy consumption and corresponding cost? This one is a little trickier.
For residential applications, power factor does nothing to save energy because the typical home already has an average power factor of about 0.97 which is almost the perfect power factor of 1 or unity. In addition, the device (called a capacitor) is placed at the main circuit breaker. According to IEEE 5.5.3.3 capacitors must be situated at or near the respective inductive loads to reduce power system losses by reducing heat and distribution losses known as I2R losses.
So what about commercial and industrial facilities using power factor correction to reduce energy costs? It is perfectly appropriate for a company that is incurring penalties or a kVA billing structure from the utility company to improve the facility’s overall power factor by employing a capacitor bank at the main service entrance or individual capacitors at or near the respective motor loads. Doing so will eliminate the power factor penalties and/or reduce the kVA demand charges on the utility bill which can save significant money and provide a significant ROI on the investment.
But what about power factor correction reducing kWh consumption? IEEE also tells us that I2R losses only account for 2 to 5% of the total load in a facility. Simple math tells us that it would be against the laws of physics to get the 15% to 30% energy reduction claimed by some vendors. Think about it. Even if your facility had 5% distribution losses and you could correct 100% of the problem via power factor correction at every load (which can’t be done) you would still only save 5% at the most. No where near the claims of some capacitor vendors and manufacturers.
All that said, power factor correction when done properly will eliminate utility penalties and kVA demand charges, improve facility power quality, increase electrical system capacity, and save a little energy when applied to the appropriate motor loads.
So make an investment in transient voltage surge suppression and power factor correction when appropriate and necessary. But caveat emptor!

Today, Directors of smaller technology companies are looking for ways to cope with the dramatic changes in the commercial landscape. Everywhere we look we hear of cutbacks and falling profits. The media love the uncertainty!
In an economic downturn such as this one, many companies will fall behind and many will fail, but there are always those that beat the odds and come out triumphant.
The companies who will survive and thrive in the economic downturn are the ones that maintain a positive attitude and do not allow themselves to become absorbed in all the medias negativity.
There are opportunities to be had in a recession, it is not completely negative. From what was clearly apparent in the recession of 1991, those business who continue to effectively market themselves and advertise their business will be the ones that come out on top for the following years.
Winning Strategies for Success:
The following strategies have been taken from 30 years worth of experience in the technology field and will help your business to rise above the competition at the other end of this recession.
Seek guaranteed survival strategies.
Find sure methods of boosting sales.
Introduce some non-executive directors into your team and ensure they have lots of experience.
Ensure that you keep hold of your customer base and that your competition doesn’t move in on them.
The Entrepreneur’s Manifesto: – The UK faces one of its biggest tests for years – to be able to generate the wealth necessary to provide the government with the income needed to repay the massive recessionary debt.
Many technology companies are differentiated NOT by their products or their solutions but by their people and the service they deliver. Its not just people that make the difference, it is what they do and how well they do it that really counts.
Generally speaking, consumers don’t tend to differentiate much between technology companies based on their products, because once a technological advancement has been made, everyone releases a product featuring it at once, and so the companies tend to just, merge. Your company can still create unique value though, but not in the inherent features of a product, but in what value you can offer them outside the product and after the sale.

Many folks believe thinks that it is just the price factor that has made the China wholesale trade flourish to an overwhelming extent during the last five years. To a large extent this assumption is right, but it is not precise in terms of its insight into the reason why Chinese wholesalers are increasingly becoming the trading choice for businesses and individual customers around the world. The fact is that the China wholesale trade had begun merely as a back-up sourcing destination for some companies from Europe and the US.
However, this experience was slowly turned around by the Chinese wholesalers to design and develop goods that are acceptable globally that have with the strictest of quality parameters. Chinese manufacturers have been able to adhere to the aesthetic and qualitative benchmarks that have been put-up by their European and American counterparts. When the sourcing of goods from Chinese wholesalers began, meeting quality standards such those defined by the UK EN71 were a big hurdle. However, Chinese manufacturers have been able to set-up their own quality testing methods to ensure that goods that were initially locally produced for the domestic markets are now able to meet the quality expectation on an international basis.
Being a densely populated nation, there is no dearth of cheap labor in China and when combined with the latest production methods, the manufacturing process is able to create goods that are at par with the best in global standards but are much cheaper.
However, there has been a growing notion among many business circles that China should be looked upon as a vendor for buying cheaper goods and stock products only. This belief is highly misplaced since Chinese manufacturers have the proficiency to alter their production methods to produce goods as per the instructions of the client. So, if you are faced with spurious-looking Chinese goods, it is not translate into the quality of an average wholesale merchandise sourced from China being defective in quality. Instead, it is the vendor or the provider of goods who is responsible for buying surplus or second-rate goods that are invariably produced in any production method. Hence, the notion of all Chinese goods being cheap re-incarnations of high-end brands is absolutely wrong. A mushrooming problem is of second-hand or manufactured defective stock products being bought by international wholesalers from South American and South-east Asian and being falsely branded as Chinese wholesale goods.
This is where a clear distinction has to be made between the goods being cheap or economical. Ultimately, it is the vendor of goods who is responsible for the quality of the goods being supplied and labeling all Chinese wholesale goods as a cheaper alternative might not be the best approach towards understanding the Chinese wholesale and dropship trade. It is up to the wholesaler who procures goods from the local Chinese markets to stress the level of quality of merchandise he wants. Wholesale dealers of global repute like B2CStock have their own regional offices in the business districts of China to ensure that they are able to procure the best of goods from the regional manufacturers. This has a huge advantage for the customers.
For starters, the goods are procured from the regionally-distributed manufacturers after a thorough market research and qualitative analysis, since the wholesaler itself has a presence in the manufacturing region. Therefore, customers looking to buy wholesale products from Chinese wholesaler at cheap prices should first enquire about the procurement/sourcing process of the goods.

Thought about starting your own business? There are many others out there that have the same though. Many people want to have the opportunity to get rid of their boss, have hours that they set, and freedom to get into the business world themselves. More than just a great idea and the desire to work at home is going to be needed if you plan on being successful with your own home business.
Starting your own business can be very problematic. Depending on the type of business you are looking into, there are countless laws, guidelines, and licensing agreements you must know before you commit yourself. Starting your own business is a great idea and being your own boss definitely has its benefits. Business owners are the first to tell you that you have to be a very hard working and dedicated person to succeed at starting your own business. Many businesses have failed simply because the owner did not put forth enough effort to keep the business afloat.
If you think that a franchise is the way to go, then you must know that it can take thousands to make this type of a purchase. When you make this purchase, you’ll end up having a relationship with the person who sold it to you. There are rules to follow for operation and you’ll have to put out more money for the staff, equipment, and goods that are needed. Having a franchise of your own is a huge task that will take up a lot of your time if you want to achieve success.
Another option is to open a retail store. If you do this you will need to figure out what type of products you want to sell. Deciding on products can be one of the hardest decisions to make. After you have an idea of the products to sell, then you must know about the laws that surround a retail business. There are permits and licenses that are needed and you need to know the laws surrounding the type of store you want to get involved in. No doubt you want to hire employees to run the store, so this means you must know employment laws too so you don’t make any mistakes. It’s hard to successfully run a retail store without a background in management.
If you don’t want to start from the bottom, you can think about other options out there, rather than opening a store or purchasing a franchise. Both of these business options are huge and definitely require a lot of research and hard work before you can even get the businesses started. You would have to get the right licenses, have a good business plan, and plenty of money as well to pour into the business for advertising purposes.
You may be discouraged now, but there are other options. There are ways that you can make a great salary, to the tune of thousands a month. You don’t even have to go with a franchise or a retail business which may quickly fail after you pour a lot of money into it. Maybe you have grown tired of always hearing about others that are being successful and making a lot of money online. If this is the case, then you need to consider some of the other options that are out there for you today. One way to realize all those dreams of making money from home is to check out Milliondollarescape.info. This provides you a way that you can create wealth of your own, realize your dreams, and all without leaving home.
If you find the right system you won’t have to do any selling and it is easy to make several thousand dollars each week without leaving home. An automated system is designed for people who want success now – not down the road.
Tired of always hearing about other people who are able to make a nice amount of money on the web? You probably know that these people aren’t any smarter than you are. We know how you feel!

I recently got a Curve. so far I like it. Checking and reading email is easy. Keys are little small, but what do you expect? Call quality is good. Even web browsing is fairly easy. Overall it is a very good phone.
by Christopher L. Grant
There are many phones available in the market right now. With such a plethora of choices one might have a hard time deciding what phone is right for them. One such company offering a wide array of choices is Blackberry. Each Blackberry has a numerous amounts of unique functions. This might make choosing a Blackberry phone hard. But the RIM Blackberry Curve 8300 is a great phone for anyone working in a business setting. The phone is absent of any media streaming capabilities. While this may deter some casual phone users, the phones clear focus on business applications make it great for anyone working for a large organization.
As found on most Blackberry Curves this one features a full QWERTY keyboard. The design of this keypad has been upgraded from previous models. The 8300 offers keys that are spaced farther apart allowing for more comfortable typing. A useful feature found on the phone is an automatic spell check. The spell check function alerts you of any spelling errors in emails, messages, memos, etc. Anyone sending out important business information will find this feature very useful. The trackball found on the phone is also improved allowing for better web surfing and navigation.
The Blackberry Curve 8300 is also able to link up to any Blackberry Enterprise Server. Many large organizations have this installed on their network and anyone with the 8300 can receive corporate email. Additionally anyone one who is using the enterprise server has access to Microsoft Office. This amazing little feature allows you to view word documents, Excel spreadsheets, and even Power Point presentations on your phone.
As mentioned earlier the phone does not support any media streaming. You will not be able to watch or listen to music off the internet. This is a big let down when compared to the amazing service V Cast has to offer. While you are still able to insert your own audio and video files into the phones 64MB flash card, it would have been nice to include the option for streaming media. The web browsing also suffers from this lack of 3G support, with load times of certain websites almost at a standstill.
The camera on the phone is sufficient. For any business person using the phone the camera might feel tacked on but it does offer a small variety of image capturing options as most camera phones do. The phone also lacks any video recording capabilities which again if you are using this phone in a corporate setting then the feature will not be missed.
If you want a phone that will help you with your business needs the RIM Blackberry Curve 8300 is right up your alley. Everyone else might want to steer clear. In this day and age phones can do anything and everything the heart desires, the average person might be disappointed with this phones lack of media sharing.

In 2006 the Internet was second only to television in capturing adult media attention. By late 2008 almost one-third of all Internet users were age 55 and up. These changes, from a younger persons media to a more accepted mainstream media for everyone, means more purchasing power is available to the internet retailer. With the growth in the numbers of older adults using Internet services, escalating gas prices and a more firm movement towards Green, on-line shopping and the many Shopping Carts available to buyers today will only fuel its popularity and use. Although demographic research suggests that the higher the family income, the more likely they are to use on-line shopping, the above trends will no doubt start to affect that as well.
Any company that is able too but is not doing business over the internet is putting themselves at an extreme disadvantage. Consider the following. According to statistics recently released by eMarketer the US is expected to see their on-line shopping grow at 65% from 2008 to 2013.To put it in a more meaningful way, revenues will go from $113B to $203B US. Hard on its heels Canadians will also see very strong on-line shopping growth. Their growth is anticipated to grow from $13.8B in 2007 to $22.8B by 2012. Therefore, any business not engaged in a shopping cart solution has certainly not missed the boat and they can learn a lot from others as they climb on board.
With all of the unpleasant economic news recently its difficult to not be adversely affected. Rather than fall victim to the negativity the various news media seem to prey on consider the possibilities that are presented to all of us through the internet. How many of us today would like to derive another income, a secondary one that allows us to provide a few extras for our family or for ourselves? The truth is there are always options for those who know where to look. Multiple income streams are a strategy that can help safeguard us while this downturn sorts itself out. Two things make it easy for anyone with a product or an idea to attract and sell to prospects. The internets global reach and the ability to perform e-commerce transactions with shopping cart solutions means you have a global audience for your product or service. Depending on your creativity these technologies make a second or even third income stream possible with minimal overhead. And don’t forget about the advantages of working from home. Even for those who don’t have a product or service ready to sell right now there are a number of Affiliate Programs available where all the work has been done for you. All the individual need do is source one or two that may align themselves with their pending product or service and start sooner than later. This method allows the newcomer to understand how on-line shopping and its associated marketing strategies all link together.
The internet has spawned a number of other social advertising formats such as Face Book, U-Tube, Twitter and more. This has caused a shift away from traditional and more expensive advertising media such as papers and yellow books. So, in addition to their reach advantages these new social media are providing cost containment for today’s financially stretched businesses. And this is accelerating the migration away from paper based solutions. Their reach is also a plus. Although everyone agrees that the economy is more challenging it is not bad everywhere. As in any down market there are always people and places that continue to thrive. The internets reach means that you have access to these markets and all the emerging and improving markets as conditions change and previously depressed areas being their economic recovery. Your presence on the internet combined with your shopping cart solution means that you are they when they are ready.
In marketing and in any economy there is always one thing that holds up. There will be people ready to buy now and others that are just shopping, collecting information for that time in the future when they will purchase. To take advantage of the now buyer your website and e-commerce solution will determine if you are able to capitalize. This holds true for everyone. But how do you deal with the future shoppers or prospects? A good shopping cart will have a stay in touch capability so you can keep prospects interested until they are ready to act. However, the astute internet marketer will look to incorporate other technologies that work with your shopping cart and e-commerce programs. Using multi-media they deliver on-going campaigns updating your prospects on your products and services. They are proactive so the customer always knows when the next deal or special is coming. For an example of a company with an excellent marketing campaign technology check out www.AutomatedMarketingSolutions.com. Rounding out your platform should be the social networks including Face Book, U-tube, Twitter and more. These networks allow you to test the market for what you intend to sell, they allow you keep in touch with how your product is being received and to be proactive in correcting any emerging negativity. The bottom line is do not limit yourself in how you reach out to your current and future prospects and customers.
If there is anything we can learn from the large organizations around us today it could be this. More and more they are recognizing the need to develop marketing programs that integrate both the internet and their traditional media. A report released in Feb. 2009 of CMO priorities for 2009 indicated that this ranked 2nd on their list of top 10. They are doing it to cut overhead and traditional advertising costs and to capitalize on its popularity. For the small to medium business or work from home entrepreneur, the same benefits hold true. The ease of set up, the ability to get to market with a product or idea and the shopping cart capabilities levels the playing ground for all of us. The thing that sets us apart will be the effectiveness with which any individual or company uses these tools to attract and convert.

I think affiliate programs are a great way to make money working from home. Affiliate programs have already created lots of millionaires. They are the living testimony of how hard work, continuous prospecting, motivating and training others pays off.
Affiliate programs allow you to work part-time or full time. You can work from home or any location you choose. It makes you an owner of a small business and you have the opportunity to build a generous residual income.
Be sure to pick a program that you like and have interest in. One of the best ways of knowing if that is the kind of program you wish to promote is if you are interested in purchasing the product yourself. If that is the case, chances are, there are many others who are also interested in the same program and products.
It is important to look for a program that is of high quality. A program that is associated with experts in that particular industry.
Look for an affiliate program that offers real and viable products. How do you know this? Do some initial research. It would be a good idea to track down some of the members and customers to give you testimonial on the credibility of the program.
Don’t waste your time with programs that do not pay you substantially for your efforts. A good choice would be a program with a compensation plan that pays out a residual income and a payout of 30% or more. Look for programs offering this kind of compensation.
It is important to have programs with a proven system that allow you to check your networks and compensation online anytime and anywhere. An affiliate program that provides continuous help and upgrades for its products. These things can assure success for you.
Knowing as much as possible in advance about the kind of program you will be promoting will help you anticipate and prevent any future problems you may encounter.
